Peterson Metra Interactive Walks

Good City Group hosted a series of interactive discovery walks in 2023 around the site of the future Peterson-Ridge Metra station. These walks celebrated the change that the new Metra station by retelling the story of its environment and residents. Curated by GCG and several special guests, the walks highlight the life and legacy of the Peterson family, whose members influenced Chicago's understanding of forestry as early as the 1870s.

Beyond giving their name to many sites in the Westridge neighborhood, the Petersons, and particularly Mary Gage Peterson (1844-1922), were instrumental in starting the conservation movement that led to the creation of the National Parks. It all started right around there, where the new Peterson/Ridge station will be.

October 15, 2023—Chicago Architecture Biennial partner program and a French Journées Nationales de l'Architecture event. Participants chose tree seeds to start at home and plant in the spring to commemorate Mary Gage Peterson's legacy.

July 23, 2023—Event was supported by the AARP Community Challenge and AmericaWalks Community Change grants.
