2021 Discovery Walks
We (re)discovered things we don’t often see through a series of interactive, discovery walks. Along the way, we had a conversation about our neighborhoods’ perceived limitations to make them more connected, accessible, and equitable. These walks shined a light on the rich and complex histories–and futures–of several Chicago communities to foster a sense of community agency and shared meaning in a way that connects us more deeply to one another.
This series of events was in partnership with the Chicago Architecture Biennial, Fourth Edition: The Available City.
Good City Discovery Walk, Portage Park on November 13, 2021
For our meander through Portage Park, we met at the corner of N. Kilpatrick and W. Belle Plaine Avenues and took a tour around the original “6 Corners of Chicago” exploring the tension between the busy commercial corridor and the neighboring residential streets.

Good City Discovery Walk, South Shore on October 30, 2021
We began and ended at South Shore Brew, 7101 S. Yates Boulevard. We explored both commercial and residential areas to discover what makes the South Shore neighborhood—situated just south of Jackson Park and right next to the lake—unique.

Good City Discovery Walk, West Ridge on October 16, 2021
Starting at the intersection of Devon Avenue and Talman Avenues, we had a short presentation of the neighborhood's history, followed by a 45-minute walk around the neighborhood. The event will ended with a brief conversation about what is good in our city, accompanied with local sweets.
